Inis Oirr

Inis Oirr (pronounced "Inisheer") is the smallest of the Aran Islands, which are right off the coast of county Clare.  Dee Dee and I set sail on August 2, 2011, from Doolin to spend 3 hours on Inis Oirr and then a slow cruise by the Cliffs of Moher.

There's a tiny community on Inis Oirr, and it's part of the Ghaeltacht, meaning that Gaelic - or Irish, as they would call it here, although Gaelic is also spoken in Wales, Scotland and Brittany - is the primary language.  There are lots of rocks and a few small houses dotted over the eastern part of the  island. Sheep and cows outnumber the humans here.  Dee Dee and managed to get lost on this tiny island...go figure.

the coolest looking rock wall ever.  seriously.

These are the ruins of a signal tower built during the Napoleonic War

more rock walls and the ruins of O'Brien's castle (15th century)

Seriously, we got lost.  We followed a small path thinking that it would loop around the island.  Not so much...
Cliffs of Moher pictures to follow soon!
